New One-of-a-kind Pear Scrumpy Gets the Thumbs Up!

NELSON, September 2011: There’s a brand spanking new addition to the Old Mout Cider family in time for summer and it is a first of its kind Down Under.

It’s is our take on the traditional ‘apple’ Scrumpy cider, but made from Nelson’s own pears, pears and only pears (no apples in here – unlike a few others out there). A stronger cider with a juicy bite, this buxom, well rounded one gets its fuller flavour from the 8% alcohol.

Sales & Marketing Director of Old Mout Cider, Scottie Chapman says, “We’ve been making cider for more than 60 years and we’re always looking at ways we can do things differently. We’re not about producing “me too” ciders, and our 100% Pear Scrumpy is evident of that. And we got plenty of “thumbs up” from eager tasters at this year’s Beervana and Auckland Food Show where it was sampled for the first time ever!

We make cider for cider lovers and place a lot of focus on taste and quality – that’s why we’re picking up so many awards. In the last month, we’ve added 14 medals from three different national and international competitions to our trophy cabinet – making us New Zealand’s most-awarded cider.”

Pear Scrumpy isn’t the only thing we’ve been working away on. You might notice our Apple Scrumpy has a slightly different taste. Using new state of the art fermentation techniques we can bring out even more natural apple flavours. Plus with a few tweaks to the blend of delicious apple varieties – alongside natural seasonal fruit changes – what we have now is a slightly drier, more refreshing cider that delivers even more of our Scrumpy promise – gutsy apple flavour that’ll still let you know who’s boss.

Pear Scrumpy will be available at selected supermarkets and various retail outlets from early September, and our even better tasting Apple Scrumpy is on sale now. Both variants are available in handy 1.25L PET bottles for $11.99 (RRP). Keep an eye out for our other variants and formats on the shelves too. We think it’s pretty good!
